Hubbards Hounds Dog Rescue is a great place to support. 100% of the donations (plus our own money most of the time) go to helping the dogs. We take dogs in from puppy mills, owner turn-ins, and shelters, but most of them come from puppy mills. That being said, many of the dogs need extensive medical care for them to be adopted. We try to keep our adoption donations as low as possible, but since donations are our only source of funds besides a few online items for sale, we have to be able to cover our expenses or we can't keep helping the dogs. If you are able to help at all, that would be great. There are other ways to help needy dogs besides money too. We are always looking for good foster homes and people to help with vet appointments or donations of blankets and toys for the dogs. Any help you might be able to give is greatly appreciated.
The donation button is in $5.00 increments. For example if you want to give more than $5.00, you put in the quantity that will multiply by $5.00 to come up with the donation you want to send. Thank you in advance for your support.
Week of May 10-May 17:
This week was a wonderful week for the rescue. The best news was the Ruby and Carli came through their operations with flying colors and both have a forever home to go to. Ruby was adopted by Amanda who also adopted Lucille which was wonderful. Lucille is a 9 yr old Cocker Spaniel who lived her whole life in a puppy mill and has been in foster care for 7-8 months. She was expected to be a forever foster until Amanda saw her with Ruby and decided to give them both the home they deserve.
Carli is a 9 yr old Yorkie who was in a shelter and would have been put down. We couldn't leave her there and figured she would be a forever foster too if someone didn't snatch her up being so cute and everything. Well, Marion did snatch her up and she is heading to her new home today (May 18th). She will live with a wonderful woman and be pampered for the rest of her life. She had surgery on Thursday for mammory tumors which often happen to these females who are not spayed. The good news is, the tumors were benign so there is no cancer that could have spread. She also was spayed and had two abcessed teeth removed, some other teeth cleaned up, and a hernia repaired. I think she is about 100% now although a little sore and will have to be a little quiet for a week or so, somehow I don't think that is a problem. Her main goal in life is to be petted and loved!
We also had some other adoptions this week! Congrats to Tricia on her adoption of Lucia, congrats to Jean on the adoption of Emmi, congrats to Marlene and Dick on the adoption of Elli.
Congrats to Julia for taking in JerryLee to foster. He is a great dog and I'm shocked no one has snatched him up, but that might not be the case now with what I am hearing about the family! UPDATE: JerryLee has been adopted by a lovely couple from Groton and has gone home to his sister, a fawn 1-2 year old puggle!
Week of May 18-May24:
So far, this has been a busy week, especially for Kim. She has called references and potential adopters and has succeeded in placing several dogs. At Bark on Saturday, Kim met a wonderful man who came on Monday to adopt Copper. Copper will go home on Tuesday and live the life of luxury on Skaneateles Lake! Foxy has also been adopted by a lovely lady who will be getting her on the next transport. JerryLee (mentioned above) is home with his new Mom, Dad and sister! With a puggle for a sister, how could it be wrong! Arthur has also been adopted and will go home this next week. It has been a great week for the dogs and their adopters. I received a note from Barbara who adopted Cheeks and they both couldn't be happier. Barbara knows that Cheeks was the "one" for her and Cheeks feels the same way!
Jax came to live with Sue today for a short time I'm sure. He is a beautiful Blue Merle Australian Shepherd who is smart as can be. He seems to be very well trained and LOVES my back yard. He has played and played for two days now. He fetches the ball, brings it back, drops it and waits for you to throw it again! He is an absolute JOY to have here!
Medical News:
We have had some costly medical procedures lately. Coquette who has already been adopted, went in for a routine spay which normally with shots, check up, and blood work costs between $200-$300. When Coquette was put under for her spay, it was discovered she had a huge bladder stone that was causing her great pain. Obviously there was never a question that it had to be removed and it was, but a normal spay was now a major operation that we were not prepared for. Coquette's surgery ended up costing $966. Coquette was always hiding, never wanted to be touched or petted. We thought is was because of where she came from, a Lancaster puppy mill, but once her bladder stone was removed, she has come out of her shell and romps and runs in the backyard with the other dogs. She is still a bit on the shy side around people, but that is normal mill behavior because of no socialization. She has been adopted by George and will be going home to PA on the next transport.
When Carli came in, her information was that she just needed to be spayed and brought up to date on shots which, again, is normal vetting costs for any dog we take. She was fostering in Florida when her foster Mom became worried because she wasn't breathing right and took her to the vet. While there, it was discovered that she had an upper respitory infection which is treated with antibiotics, but also that she had mammory tumors and would probably need a radical mastectomy. This was another unexpected, added expense, but there was never any question we would do what needed to be done. The good news is that she didn't need a radical mastectomy and just the tumors were removed which were benign! She also had two abcessed teeth that were pulled, the others ones cleaned and a hernia repaired so she had some major surgery. You would never know it though, she is eating, drinking, sleeping, and coming for loving just like she always is. Carli went home to be with her forever Mom last Sunday and both couldn't be happier!
