Maxine is a long haired doxie who is about 7-8
years old. She has had several littes of puppies
and was partially paralyzed at one point. She can
walk now, but walks with an odd gait. She has
some incontinence problems and may need to
wear prissy pants to help with that.
YAY!! Maxine was adopted 5/2011 by a wonderful
lady. Jill ran a doggy day care so is very familiar
with doggy needs and decided to adopt a special
needs dog. Maxine was the lucky one and now has
a forever home with Jill and Panda! She was
SOOO excited to see all of Panda's toys, she
wasn't even sure what to play with first! We wish
them all the best!

UPDATE 5/2011:
I dearly love sweet Maxine. Everyone here in
the house really likes her, too! Right now
she just finished enjoying a "hot dog
rawhide" bone that Panda left behind. Panda
was chewing on it on the couch, and Maxine
was between us. As soon as Panda
dropped it and walked away, Maxine picked it
up and enjoyed for a few minutes. Right now
she's using the fleece blanket as her napkin.
:) And just now she's rolled onto her back. :)
Oh, how nice to know she can be vulnerable
here. She's so sweet and trusting, and that
tail of hers is always wagging.
I decided to give it a try and see what it would
be like to have her hike with us, and while it
certainly wasn't at all disastrous, I can't say
yet that she is an avid hiker. I carried her
most of the time. I knew it would be too long
of a jaunt--2 hours. She may soon join one
of my elderly hikers who goes out on short,
leisurely hikes for about 50 minutes (we go
at a snail's pace). I think that she will really
enjoy day care--it will suit her needs well.
Maxine is very curious and seems to love the water! On our hike today she jumped into the creek. She
puttered through the deep, wet grass as the other dogs romped and enjoyed fetching sticks in the water.
She loves to explore. Tonight she squeezed through a hole in the bottom of the carriage barn. About 5
minutes later she squeezed back out! She's enjoyed white chicken tender added to her dry food.
Actually, she devours it, of course. So the grazing will probably become a thing of the past as she'll hold
out until she gets the gourmet portion added to her 2 daily meals.
I gave her a bath last night--she didn't seem to enjoy it--she whined a lot. She's so good about her
diaper. Last night she slept on the bed with me and Panda. Panda is gradually adapting to have a
sister.
Maxine is here to stay. No more adjusting to a new mom. She's mine. :) Thank you, Kim. Send me the
paperwork to make her mine. (I knew it wouldn't take long for me to bond to her). Last night when I got
home from work Panda greeted me at the door as usual and Maxine stayed in the foyer and watched.
Tonight she was right at the door with Panda. I can't wait for Jim to meet her. He'll love her, too, and
shower her with affection and gentleness. I am so blessed. :)
